A US social networking platform for healthcare professionals has launched in the UK and is now available in the NHS.
SurgeOn allows doctors worldwide to discuss medical techniques, share how to perform new procedures and more.
The app, founded by surgeons Jeremy Heffner, Mark Soliman and Mario Lebya, includes features such as video tutorials and AI transcription service Scribe.
Soliman said: “SurgeOn provides a safe, judgment-free space where surgeons can connect globally, fostering an open and welcoming environment.
“It encourages everyone, especially junior team members, to ask questions and seek guidance without fear of being misunderstood or judged.”
More than 17,000 physicians in the US have signed up for the private fully encrypted app, which the devleopers say combines the features of Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn.
It features an interface that looks much like a standard social media feed, but has a stringent verification process to protect the surgeons who use it and their patients.
“Verification ensures our community of surgeons maintains the highest standards of professionalism and trust, creating a secure space for collaboration and discussion, advancing the field of surgery worldwide.
“Over the next few months, we’ll be adding new regions. Our goal is to make SurgeOn accessible to physicians, students and advanced practice providers worldwide.
“All while maintaining the unmatched security and privacy features that set our platform apart,” Soliman added.
In summer 2025, SurgeOn will launch its ‘Academy’, a video-based learning platform offering webinars on everything from how to administer chemotherapy to teaching yoga classes.
Meanwhile, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is already using an app to connect its healthcare professionals.
The trust developed the digital governance app MyStaff with Diligram, with the intention of making it easier to manage critical policies and procedures, reducing the time staff spend searching for information from almost 10 minutes to under 30 seconds.
Following the go-live in 2023, around 80% of staff (12,257) at Mid and South Essex NHS FT have signed up for the app and approximately 1,000 are using it daily.
